Sitting on the northern most point of the island Block Island North Lighthouse is the 4th lighthouse on Sandy Point. The 2-story brown granite lighthouse built in 1867 has a Victorian Gothic Revival look. An octagonal tower 55 feet high sits atop the lighthouse and uses a Fresnel lens to guide ships around the 1 ½ mile long reef that extends from Sandy Point. It was deactivated in 1973 and sat empty until 1983 when the town of New Shoreham purchased the lighthouse. After repairs were made it was opened as a maritime museum. The small museum consists of five rooms of unique maritime history.
While visiting the lighthouse take the time to walk the point and marvel at the spectacular views of the sound and the ocean. Depending on the time of the year you may get a chance to see the seals playing in the water.

- The lighthouse is 14 miles from New Shoreham, you will need some form of transportation
- The walk to the lighthouse from the parking area is on a ½ mile section of sandy rocky beach
